Ten-fold rise in warnings issued to alien aircraft: Iranian commander

21 Apr 2014 - 12:50

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Lieutenant Commander of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base General Ali Reza Sabahi-Fard said there has been a surge in warnings sent to foreign aircraft during the last few years.

Speaking in Tehran on Sunday, General Sabahi-Fard referred to the upswing in the tactical measures taken by the air defense base, and said that the number of tactical measures and warnings issued to alien aircraft in autumn of the last Iranian year ( September 23 - December 22) was ten times more compared to the same period three years ago.

He further said the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei in a recent meeting with the base’s commander has expressed satisfaction with the performance of the air defense base, especially in the area of detection and identification (of intruders).

The commander said the Supreme Leader laid out very significant strategies on air defense, including the need for the base to pay serious attention to electronic warfare and electronic defense.

Earlier this year, Sabahi-Fard had underlined that Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base safeguards the country’s air space with full preparedness.

The commander also highlighted the scientific progress made in the country, including in the defense field, and regarded it as one of the factors contributing to Iran’s current strength.
