Iranian duo win gold, silver in IPC powerlifting world championship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Amir Sajad Youssefizadeh and Rouhallah Rostami won gold and silver medal respectively on Monday in the IPC Powerlifting World Championship in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.



In the 65-kg class, Amir Sajad Yousefizadeh won the junior gold medal by lifting 127 kg.

Russian Denis Maksimenko earned a silver medal with a lift of 119 kg.  Bronze medal went to Libyan lifter Saad Taiyb, who lifted 96 kg overhead.

In -72kg class, London 2012 Paralympic silver medallist Rouhallah Rostami, won the gold medal with a lift of 209kg. Egyptian Mohamed Elelfat lifted 217kg and claimed the gold, while the bronze medal went to Russian Sergei Sychev with a lift of 206kg.

The 2014 IPC Powerlifting World Championships, which runs from April 5 to 11 in the UAE, has brought over 330 athletes from nearly 60 countries together.
