Security officer charged with manslaughter in Beheshti case

4 Mar 2014 - 11:56

The security officer who oversaw the case of Sattar Beheshti, the detained blogger who died three days into his arrest by Cyber Police, will stand trial in April for manslaughter in a court for government staff, says the Beheshti family’s lawyer.
According to IRNA, Giti Pourfazel reported that Beheshti’s parents have received a summons to appear in court on the appropriate date.

Pourfazel said the Beheshti family believes the charge against the security officer should have been first degree murder rather than manslaughter.

Beheshti was arrested in October of 2012 by the Cyber Police and three days later he died during interrogation. His cellmates attest to the presence of torture marks on his body and claim he died as a result of the torture. A coroner’s report acknowledges the presence of torture marks but stops short of linking them to Beheshti’s death.
