Shamkhani cautions western governments against raising subsidiary issues to harm dialogue

Tehran, Feb 5, IRNA – Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani on Wednesday cautioned the western governments against putting forward subsidiary issues to harm the atmosphere of dialogue and bring about unpredictable marginal problems.

In a meeting with Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, he referred to ongoing talks between Iran and 5+1 Group over the nuclear dispute and stressed the need to observe morality of negotiations as primary necessity for the process of confidence-building.


Pointing to the Iranian clear and principled stance originating from Iran?s legal rights to possess the peaceful nuclear technology, Shamkhani said that nuclear deal due to be implemented for six-month period is a token to see whether or not the western governments have sincerity and political will to resolve the dispute with Iran.

Shamkahani hailed the Iranian scientists? achievements in the field of nanotechnology, biotechnology, biosciences, space technology, information technology and communications as clear examples of the country?s successes in transcending borders of science and technology.

Referring to Iran?s willingness to promote all-out ties with independent countries, he said that safeguarding national security is a major principle of Iran?s foreign policy.

Sweden?s foreign minister, for his part, described Ian?s prospects for cooperation with the western governments as bright and constructive, saying that new situation facing Iran and Sweden have created remarkable opportunities for promoting commercial and economic ties.

Bildt further noted that a comprehensive agreement to be signed after six months between Iran and 5+1 Group will open a new chapter in Iran?s ties with the western countries.
