28 Jan 2014 - 16:57

Baku. Real Jafarli – APA. Iranian Foreign Ministry has commented on the closure of Imam Khomeini Imdad Committee office in Azerbaijan, APA reports quoting ISNA.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said at weekly briefing for local and foreign journalists that the Committee had carried out humanitarian activities in the Republic of Azerbaijan from the very beginning of its independence.

“Even Azerbaijan’s high-ranking officials highly-estimated the steps taken by the Committee in this field. However, changes in the socio-economic situation of the country in recent years led to the decision on the closure of Iran’s Imam Khomeini Imdad Committee office in Azerbaijan. The Committee carrying out good activities in the humanitarian field closed its office after 20 years. This issue doesn’t reflect any political motive.”

Imam Khomeini Imdad Committee office in Azerbaijan was opened in 1993. Azerbaijan’s Justice Ministry revoked the registration of the organization in 2011. Official Baku said that the closure of the office in Azerbaijan was due to the fact that Azerbaijan has achieved economic development, therefore the activities of foreign charitable organizations in the country are not necessary.
