Iranian deputy FM meets Bolivian president

21 Jan 2014 - 12:45

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht Ravanchi held a meeting with Bolivian President Evo Morales, and submitted President Hassan Rouhani’s written message to him.

During the meeting in La Paz on Monday, Takht Ravanchi underlined the Iranian government’s seriousness and resolve to continue, develop and deepen its relations with Bolivia in all fields, and announced Tehran’s readiness to cooperate with Bolivia as the president of the Group 77.

The Group of 77 at the UN is a coalition of developing nations strongly supported by China, designed to promote economic interactions among the member states, and create an enhanced joint negotiating capacity in the United Nations.

Morales, for his part, appreciated President Rouhani’s letter, and stressed the importance of ties with Iran as a friendly country.

He also invited President Rouhani to participate in the Group 77 summit in Bolivia.

Iran has been seeking to boost its ties with Latin American countries in recent years to the concern of the United States. It has expanded friendly ties with Latin America, specially in economic, trade and industrial fields.

The strong and rapidly growing ties between Iran and Latin America have raised eyebrows in the US and its western allies since Tehran and Latin nations have forged an alliance against the imperialist and colonialist powers and are striving hard to reinvigorate their relations with the other independent countries which pursue a line of policy independent from the US.
