Serbian music, film festival to host Iran’s Asghar Farhadi

Iranian Oscar winning filmmaker Asghar Farhadi has been invited to the 2014 edition of Kustendorf Film and Music Festival in Serbia.

Farhadi’s latest drama The Past (Le Passé )is slated to be screened at the Competition section of the festival.

The Past depicts the story of an Iranian man who deserts his French wife and two children to return to his homeland. When he comes back to Paris at his wife's request for a divorce, he encounters the family’s complicated situation there.

The Past has scooped numerous awards so far such as two prizes at the 66th Cannes film festival including the Best Actress award and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury (prix du Jury œcuménique).

Farhadi’s Paris-set tale film grabbed the best foreign language film prize at the 2013 National Board of Review (NBR) award.

Farhadi’s immigrant romantic drama that was shot in Paris is his sixth directorial experience and the first one in a foreign country.

The Past star, the French-Argentinean actress Bérénice Bejo has been selected to preside over the Serbian festival’s jury panel.

The seventh Kustendorf Film and Music Festival kicked off last night on January 18 and will run until January 23, 2014.

Established in 2008, the event is a film and music festival organized by Rasta International and eminent Serbian film director Emir Kusurica’s production company.

The annual event is usually held during early January in the village of Drvengrad (also known as Kustendorf) in the Mokra Gora region of Serbia.
