Iraqi premier calls for removal of obstacles to Iranian pilgrims visits to holy shrines

Baghdad, Jan 16, IRNA – Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on Thursday called for removal of existing obstacles to the visits of Iranian pilgrims to holy Iraqi cities in Iraq. 

Nouri al-Maliki made the remarks in a meeting with the Supreme Leader?s representative and Head of Hajj Organization Ali Ghazi Asgar in Baghdad on Thursday.


Iraq is determined to remove all obstacles particularly at this very sensitive juncture, said the Iraqi premier.

Ghazi Asgar, for his part, underlined the need to facilitate visits of Iranian pilgrims to holy cities in Iraq and called for expansion of cooperation with Iraq.

Through creation of more infrastructures the number of Iranian pilgrims is expected to double in the future, he said.

During his stay, the Iranian envoy met with a number of Iraqi officials and discussed with them ways of promoting mutual relations and cooperation.
