People have taken to the streets in several towns and villages in Bahrain in protest against the rule of Al Khalifa regime, Press TV reports.
Amateur footage shows anti-regime protesters holding peaceful demonstrations on Monday in some towns and villages of the country, including the northeastern island of Sitra, and the villages of Banee Jamra and Karb Abad.

The protesters carried pictures of those killed during the country’s popular uprising.

They also chanted anti-regime slogans, urging the Al Khalifa family to relinquish power.

On Friday, people also held a demonstration in the village of Damestan in solidarity with political prisoners.

They called for the release of Hassan al-Mushaima, jailed for life over participating in anti-regime protests.

The uprising in Bahrain began in mid-February 2011. Protesters initially called for political reforms and a constitutional monarchy. However, the demand later changed to an outright call for the ouster of the Al Khalifa family following its brutal crackdown on popular protests.

Scores of people have been killed in the crackdown, and security forces have arrested hundreds, including doctors and nurses.

Dozens of demonstrators have also been sentenced to jail terms for attending street protests.
