Takfiris pushing Israeli agenda in Mideast: Leader aide

9 Jan 2014 - 22:51

A high-ranking Iranian military official says Takfiri groups are advancing Israel’s interests in the Middle East through violence and terrorism.

“Through the massacre of innocent people in countries like Syria, Iraq and Bahrain, Takfiri groups are pushing the situation in the region in favor of the Zionist regime [of Israel],” Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, senior military adviser to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, said on Thursday.
He added, “These terrorist groups are being supported by some countries tied to the United States and its allies.”
Rahim Safavi also called upon the rulers of countries sponsoring Takfiri militants to take lessons from the fate of the deposed Shah of Iran and executed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, and bear in mind that standing against public demands is “doomed to failure.”

On Wednesday, Deputy Chief of Staff of Iranian Armed Forces Brigadier General Masoud Jazayeri said supporters of Takfiri groups operating against the Syrian government will eventually burn in the fire they started.

Jazayeri said over the past two years, the enemies of Syria have done everything in their power to defeat the Syrian government but the vigilance of Syrians has foiled their attempts.

Syria has been gripped by deadly crisis since 2011. According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies - especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey - are supporting the militants operating inside the country.

According to the United Nations, more than 100,000 people have been killed and millions displaced due to the turmoil that has gripped Syria for over two years.
