Yazd Congregational Mosque inscription among great stolen artworks

TEHRAN, Jan. 7 (MNA) – Interpol has cited Yazd’s Congregational Mosque inscription among the world’s greatest stolen artworks in 2011.
‘Inscription 14 Sinless’ inscription embedded on northern wall and in vicinity of eastern vestibule of Congregational Mosque and the office of Cultural Heritage Organization of Yazd was cited among the important stolen artworks of 2011. The surprising part of the thievery is that how could two young thieves manage to steal from a mosque which is the heart of the city. The inscription was stolen in January 2010.


Now, more than 20 cameras have been installed in the place. The inscription was shaved out of white marble slab in 777 AH. The Cultural Heritage Organization experts estimated the inscription worth of $ 10m.





The poster citing the inscription by Interpol carries Muslim prayers, reverence of the Shiite Imams, inscribed on marble. No source has given the information about the method of artwork, the circles, and the number of circles which is 24.


Interpol has announced the case is open and any information would be welcomed for further examination.
