Ali Larijani potential candidate for Iran 2013 presidential election

13 Oct 2012 - 17:12

An Iranian lawmaker says the incumbent Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani will probably be the candidate of the parliament’s Followers of the Just Jurisprudence faction for the upcoming presidential election.

Chairman of the faction Kazem Jalali said on Saturday that Larijani has not agreed to the faction’s request despite their insistence, adding that the princiapalist group has other potential candidates.

The Iranian lawmaker said the faction has chosen Larijani because of his experience in executive management and his prudence.

Meanwhile, Secretary of Iran’s Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei has announced his candidacy in the next Iranian presidential election. Rezaei also ran for the 2009 election where he came in third with 1.7 percent of the votes.

The next presidential election in Iran is scheduled to be held in June 2013.
