6 Jan 2014 - 13:51

TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iranian researchers have managed to treat non-union of broken bones, osteoarthritis of the hip, knee and ankle.
The method produces bone cells through putting bone marrow mesenchyme stem cells of the patient on a scaffolding of artificial bone. The method has been used in test phase for treating non-union of bones for 5 years, but recently it is possible to provide the method for all patients in a new clinic in Rouyan Research Center, said Mohsen Emadeddin, Head of Orthopaedics Department of the research center.

He said some 15-20 patients have been treated by this method who experienced a considerable recovery.

Iran has taken wide strides in science and technology, particularly in medical and medicinal fields, in recent years.
