Iranian player wins gold at World Youth Chess Championship

TEHRAN, Dec. 29 (MNA) – Pouya Idani of Iran won the World Youth Chess Championship 2013 held in Al Ain, the United Arab Emirates on Saturday.
The Iranian international master won the Under-18 category with 8 points after 11 rounds, following a half point draw with the second best Nijat Abasov of Azerbaijan.

It’s the first time an Iranian chess player wins a gold medal at the Under-18 category.

About1800 players and 1700 accompanying persons from 120 countries with 123 players in the boy's Under-18 category took part in the event.

The tournament took place from December 17 to 29 at the Al Ain Chess Club.

The World Youth Chess Championship's history goes back to 1974. France was the first country to host the young participants of the World Cadets, U17 tournament.
