Beirut terrorist bombing was Zionist plot: Iran MP

28 Dec 2013 - 13:52

An Iranian lawmaker has slammed the deadly terrorist attack in the Lebanese capital of Beirut, saying it was masterminded by the Israeli regime.
“Yesterday’s explosion [in Beirut] was yet another act planned by Zionists and supported by Salafis and the March 14 Alliance,” Deputy Head of Iran-Lebanon Parliamentary Friendship Group Razi Nouri told IRNA on Saturday.

He also blamed the enemies of Lebanon for orchestrating false flag operations in the country.

“Unfortunately, when it comes to Lebanon, the enemies of resistance have always sought to implement their own plans in the name of others and then accuse them [of having committed such acts],” the Iranian legislator added.

Nouri emphasized that the Lebanese government and resistance movement are aware of such conspiracies and will thwart the enemy plots.

The Iranian lawmaker dismissed as “ridiculous” accusations leveled against Lebanon’s Hezbollah, adding “all such plots are hatched under the Zionist regime’s supervision.”

At least five people were killed and over 70 others injured after a huge car bomb went off near the headquarters of Lebanon’s March 14 Alliance and the parliament in the capital, Beirut, on Friday.

A senior figure of the March 14 Alliance and former finance minister, Mohammad Shatah, and a companion of his were among those killed in the blast. Shatah also served as an adviser to the country’s ex-prime minister, Saad al-Hariri.
In a statement on Friday, the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah strongly condemned the terrorist attack, saying the resistance movement believes that “this crime is one of a series of crimes and blasts aimed at devastating the country.”
The resistance movement “called on the Lebanese to be rational and wise in order to face the dangers that are threatening their country.”

The Lebanese capital has been hit by several deadly bomb attacks over the past few months.

At least 23 people, including Iran’s cultural attaché to Beirut, were killed and more than 140 injured in November after two explosions struck near the Iranian embassy in southern Beirut.
