Iranian student uses honey bee to discover minerals

TEHRAN (FNA)- An Iranian student has utilized honey bee’s sense of smell to find out minerals for the first time in the world, the vice-chancellor of the Azad University of Mahallat Branch said.


Mohammad Ali Aliabadi said that Ariya Samimi, a 26-year-old student, has reached this conclusion while he was writing his dissertation for the Master of Science degree in geology economy, the Islamic republic news agency reported.

The project was undertaken under the supervision of professors from German University of Konstanz, Sweden's University, SLU, and Zagreb University within a 4-month period.

Given the remarkable results of the research work, Samimi has participated in different news conferences at the request of the Biology and Geology Department of Stockholm University and the Swedish TV’s Channel Four.

Aliabadi added that researchers have already managed to use dog’s sense of smell for detecting minerals.
