Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi says he is optimistic about the future of talks between Tehran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany.
In a Saturday interview, Iran’s deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs said Tehran and the six major powers must not lose the opportunity, created after the Geneva deal, to resolve the nuclear issue.

Araqchi, who is at The Hague for the 18th Conference of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), is also a member of Iran's nuclear negotiating team

On November 24, Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council- the US, Russia, France, China, and Britain- plus Germany sealed an agreement to lay the groundwork for the full resolution of the West’s decade-old dispute with Iran over its nuclear energy program.

In exchange for Tehran’s confidence-building measure to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities, the Sextet agreed to lift some of the existing sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

Araqchi said Iran and the six powers try for a positive result in the talks based on logic, despite efforts made by Tel Aviv and some forces in the United States to undermine the Geneva deal.

There are dark forces like the Zionist regime of Israel and certain groups in the US that want to obstruct the nuclear process but we must try to ensure logic wins, he added.

The hawkish Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has described the nuclear deal as a "historic mistake” that is bad for Israel.

Senior Israeli officials, including Netanyahu, have been hard at work in recent weeks trying to discredit Washington’s strategy with Tehran and the deal struck in Geneva.
