Two Iranian screen productions The Pearl and The Silence of Barreh have gone to the international film festivals in Austria and the Netherlands.
The Pearl directed by Sirous Hassanpour was screened at the 32nd Oulu International Film festival of Children and Young Adults in Austria.

Produced by Iran’s Farabi Cinematic Foundation, the movie was presented at the ‘Sound of the Nature’ section of the festival that kicked off on November 18 and will come to an end today, November 24.

The Pearl has been showcased in several international events such as Tamil Nadu International Film Festival in India and Damah Film Festival that took place in the Japanese city of Hiroshima.

The Pearl chronicles the life of a pearl hunter, Karim, who is living in a little town of southern Iran. Karim who suffers from heart trouble, finds out that he needs an urgent surgery for the disease but he cannot afford it. His two children think that they have to grow up sooner than expected time to help their dad.

The film won the UNICEF award at the 2012 International Film Festival for Children and Young Adults in Isfahan.

According to the UNICEF report on the film, The Pearl“provides a realistic perspective of child labor and reflects situations where children are forced to distance themselves from their childhood.”

The report also says that the film portrays the finer aspects of human relationships and moral values with beautiful cinematic skills.

Iranian documentary The Silence of Barreh directed by Mehrdad Ahmadpour and Morvarid Peyda is to be premiered at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA).

The film is scheduled to be presented during six screening program that will begin from Monday, November 25.

The Silence of Barreh revolves around a fighting bull called Barreh that stands for the pride and joy of people living in a remote Iranian village.

The 2013 International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam began on November 20 and will continue until December 1.
