FM downplays effectiveness of sanctions on Iran

12 Nov 2013 - 13:04

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Iran would never succumb to the enemies' pressures as it enjoys the ability to turn sanctions into opportunities, particularly in its nuclear program.

“We had 200 centrifuges eight years ago, but sanctions resulted in our possessing of 19,000 centrifuges at the moment,” Zarif told the state-run TV late on Monday.

The Iranian top diplomat also described US sanctions against the Islamic Republic as “unilateral” and “in violation of international agreements”.

He estimated that the Iranian nuclear issue could be solved in less than a year provided that the West does not look for excuses.

On November 23, 2012, the 17th Exhibition of Iran's achievements in nuclear industry started work at Shahid Baheshti University in Tehran to display the country's latest nuclear achievements.

Part of the Iranian nuclear industry's achievements in nuclear fuel production and enrichment, Bushehr nuclear power plant and Arak nuclear research reactor, nuclear agriculture, nuclear and radio medicine, nuclear fusion, optic, laser and nuclear materials are on display in the exhibition.

The exhibition allocated one of its pavilions for introducing 360MW Darkhovin power plant (IR360) to the public and enthusiasts.

Various Iranian universities across the country have so far hosted similar exhibitions aimed at introducing Iran's peaceful nuclear technology to citizens.
