Snowden lands job with major Russian website

9 Nov 2013 - 10:20

TEHRAN (FNA)- Former US spy agency contractor Edward Snowden began working for a website last Friday, said his lawyer Anatoly Kucherena.

The name of the website hasn’t been named for “security reasons”.

The head of the most popular Russian social network VKontakte (In Contact), Pavel Durov, who has previously sent an invitation to Snowden to work at the company, refused to comment on the situation, Al-Alam reported.

The famous whistleblower was granted temporary asylum in Russia, which can be extended annually.

However he hasn’t decided yet whether he will submit a request for Russian citizenship, said Kucherena.

Snowden, 30, faces espionage charges and theft of government property in the United States for revealing information about the National Security Agency's surveillance and data-gathering networks. Snowden has said he did it to "correct this wrongdoing."

He first fled to Hong Kong and then to Russia, where he was stuck for more than a month without a visa or travel documents in the transit lounge at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport.
