Afghan Foreign Ministry spokesman Janan Mosazai has hailed Tehran-Kabul relations as friendly, brotherly and good.
Speaking in his weekly press conference on Sunday, Mosazai expressed hope that relations between the two neighboring countries would further expand in the future.

Rejecting reports about tension in Iran-Afghanistan ties, the Afghan official underlined that the two countries have enjoyed excellent relations over the past ten years.

During a meeting between Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani and his Afghan counterpart Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi in October on the sidelines of the 129th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Geneva, the two officials stressed the need for closer cooperation between Tehran and Kabul to establish stability in Afghanistan.

In the meeting, Ibrahimi thanked Iran for supporting Afghanistan, expressing hope that Tehran will further contribute to the establishment of lasting peace in his country.

In August, Iran and Afghanistan signed a strategic cooperation agreement during a visit to Tehran by Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s National Security Advisor Rangin Dadfar Spanta.

Spanta said the document marks the beginning of a process to upgrade bilateral relations between the two neighbors in different fields “to a strategic level,” which would serve the interests of both nations.

The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan in 2001 as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror. The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but the country is still grappling with mounting insecurity.
