Iran, UAE sign cooperation MoU

23 Oct 2013 - 15:45

The Islamic Republic of Iran and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on mutual cooperation, an Iranian deputy foreign minister says.
Iran Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Iranian Expatriates Affairs Hassan Qashqavi said on Wednesday that the MoU concerns cooperation between the two countries’ Coast Guards and fighting drug trafficking.

The agreement was signed in a meeting between Qashqavi and Emirati Assistant Foreign Minister Tareq al-Haidan on Wednesday during the eighth joint Iran-UAE Joint Consular Committee.

The two-day meeting began on Tuesday in Iran’s capital, Tehran.

Qashqavi added that the 16-article MoU also includes judicial cooperation on criminal matters such as the swap of prisoners.

The Iranian official said Iran and the UAE share the political resolve to improve bilateral ties, adding that relations between Tehran and Abu Dhabi are improving in all fields.

Al-Haidan, for his part, also stressed that reciprocal ties between the two countries have improved.

He added that the Joint Consular Commission addresses important issues related to both countries’ nationals and attempts to resolve their problems.
