Iran Majlis committee slam US diplomat's rhetoric

22 Oct 2013 - 22:27

Iran’s Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee has strongly condemned US Undersecretary of State and top nuclear negotiator Wendy Sherman for her impolite remarks against the Iranian nation.
Hossein Naqavi Hosseini, the spokesman for the Majlis Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, said the condemnation was expressed in the Tuesday meeting of the parliamentary committee.
“Repetition of such rhetoric by the US officials will lead to the Iranian nation and government’s distrust of the US,” he pointed out.
At a meeting with US senators on October 3, Sheram, who is the State Department’s third-ranking official, used an impolite language against Iranians, saying, “We know that deception is part of the DNA.”

Sherman’s remarks come a week after Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council -- the United States, China, Russia, France and Britain -- plus Germany held two days of negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear energy program behind closed doors in the Swiss city of Geneva on October 15-16.

During the meeting on October 15, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif presented Iran’s proposal titled “Closing an Unnecessary Crisis, Opening a New Horizon” to EU foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, and the representatives of the six countries. The two sides agreed to keep the details of the proposal confidential for the time being.

Following the negotiations, Ashton lauded the talks as the most “detailed” and “substantive” ever between the two sides, describing Iran’s proposal as an “important contribution.”

Iran and the six powers have agreed to meet again in Geneva on November 7-8.
