Tehran, Oct 21, IRNA – The Sultanate of Oman will no longer represent Iran in Britain in coming days after Tehran and London appoint their non-resident charge d’affaires as the first step to re-open their embassies in the two capitals.
During the 68th meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in New York late September, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and British Foreign Secretary William Hague instructed their deputies Majid Takht-e Ravanchi and Simon Gass to prepare the ground for reopening of embassies in London and Tehran.

On October 8, Hague called for appointment of non-resident charge d’affaires by Tehran and London in a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Zarif.

In Geneva on October 16, Takht-e Ravanchi, also a member of Iran’s negotiating team with the Group 5+1, and Gass, once British ambassador to Iran (2009–11), met on the sidelines of the latest nuclear talks and agreed the non-resident charge d?ffaires to initiate operation in each capital within two weeks.

No specific diplomat has yet been appointed as Iran’s non-resident charge d’affaires in London from the several nominees who were not made public.

Britain ordered the closure of Iranian Embassy in London after closing its own in Tehran following the storming of the compound by angry students in November 2011 in protest at the UK government which orchestrated the EU sanctions on Iran.
President Hassan Rouhani launched a diplomatic campaign against the western governments at the United Nations General Assembly after his landslide victory in June elections accusing the West of taking violent action against Iranian nation Jeopardizing the international peace and security.
President Rouhani said that he will advocate normalization of relations with the west.
