An Iranian lawmaker says the closure of the Fordow nuclear facility is not on the agenda of the Iranian negotiators during the talks with the six world powers.
Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator Abbas Araqchi has reaffirmed that the six world powers involved in nuclear negotiations with Tehran in Geneva were told that Tehran would not stop uranium enrichment and that the closure of Fordow was not on the agenda of the Iranian negotiating team, said Mohammad Hossein Asafari who sits on the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Iran’s Majlis.

On Sunday, Araqchi and Majid Takhte-e Ravanchi, who were on Iran’s negotiating team in Geneva, briefed the Majlis committee on the recent talks.

The lawmaker further quoted the two Foreign Ministry officials as telling the other side during the Geneva talks that the decision on the acceptance of the Additional Protocol falls within the jurisdiction of Majlis.

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - the United States, China, Russia, France and Britain - plus Germany held two days of negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear energy program behind closed doors in the Swiss city of Geneva on October 15-16.

During a meeting on October 15, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif presented Iran’s proposal titled “Closing an Unnecessary Crisis, Opening a New Horizon” to EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton, and the representatives of the six countries.

Following the negotiations, Ashton lauded the talks as the most “detailed” and “substantive” ever between the two sides, describing Iran’s proposal as an “important contribution.”

Iran and the six powers have agreed to meet again in Geneva on November 7-8.
