Tehran, Oct 20, IRNA – Chairman of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi described sanctions imposed on Iran as illegal, oppressive and failed, saying that Iran has made numerous scientific and technological achievements under sanctions.
He made the remarks in a Sunday meeting with the delegation of socialist groups in European Parliament led by Hannes Swoboda, according to a report by Majlis News and Mass Media Bureau.

Stressing the significance of dialogue between Majlis and European Parliament, Boroujerdi noted that regular talks can help develop a good understanding about each other’s viewpoints on regional developments and issues of mutual interest.

“Majlis welcomes any approach in line developing ties with the European states’ parliaments in all fields,” he said.

Referring to the rights and freedom of religious minorities stipulated in Iran’s Constitution as well as Islamic Revolution’s success in promoting women’s role in social and political fields, Boroujerdi said that western media have presented a false image of the Iranian society, especially religious minorities and women.

As to Syrian crisis, the MP said that the crisis is the outcome of the wrong policies of the US, Britain and its regional allies, noting that providing the terrorists in Syria with weapons has threatened the peace and security of the entire region.

Recalling the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear energy program, Boroujerdi underscored the country’s legitimate right to peaceful use of nuclear energy.
