Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman has rejected media speculation about the content of Tehran’s proposal at the Geneva talks, stressing that the offer protects the country’s nuclear rights.
Marzieh Afkham said on Saturday that the Geneva talks were a new chapter in talks between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - the United States, China, Russia, France and Britain - plus Germany aimed at ending the impasse over Tehran’s nuclear program.

Describing Iran’s proposal as comprehensive, Afkham said the offer protects all the nuclear rights of the Islamic Republic and provides an opportunity to prove the futility of the West’s “pressure and negotiation approach.”
“Iran entered talks to reach an agreement,” said Afkham, adding that confidence-building and cooperation and providing grounds for achieving mutual understanding would become possible through taking balanced steps by both sides.
The Iranian official said recent propaganda and speculations in various media outlasts are mostly the work of radical and extremist currents particularly Zionist ones that want to sabotage the new approach by insinuating win-win talks are impossible.
“We hereby state that these speculations have no relevance in form or content to Iran’s proposals,” Afkham added.
Iran and the six major world powers held two days of negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear energy program behind closed doors in the Swiss city of Geneva on October 15-16.

Both sides sounded an upbeat note following the meetings, where Iran tabled its proposals to end the nuclear standoff, and they agreed to meet again in Geneva on November 7-8.

The United States, Israel and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program, with the US and the European Union using the unsubstantiated claim as an excuse to impose illegal sanctions against Tehran.

The bans come on top of four rounds of US-instigated UN Security Council sanctions against Iran under the same pretext.

Iran has categorically rejected the allegation, stressing that as a committed member of the International Atomic Energy Agency and a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, it is entitled to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
