Iran doctrine based on deterrent policy, commander

25 Sep 2013 - 12:42

Tehran, Sept 25, IRNA – Commander of Army’s Ground Forces Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said Wednesday that Iran’s doctrine is defensive and based on deterrent policy.
Addressing a local ceremony, the commander said the Iranian forces are well prepared to defend the country, stressing, “but we will never start any war.”

However, he added, the country’s forces are committed to promote their capabilities in order to defend the country in face of any threat.

Today, he said, Iran’s armed forces enjoy great capabilities to safeguard the country thanks to the experiences they gained during the 1980-1988 Iraqi imposed war.

Iran annually celebrates the Sacred Defense Week commemorating sacrifices of combatants during the Iran-Iraq war. The Week started on September 22 this year.
