A high-ranking Russian official says full control of the first phase of Bushehr nuclear power plant in southern Iran will be handed over to Iranian technicians later this month.
Russian President's Foreign Policy Advisor Yuri Viktorovich Ushakov told reporters in Moscow on Thursday that Iranian technicians will assume responsibility for the first operational unit of the facility on September 24.

He went on to say that Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart, Hassan Rouhani will discuss the use of peaceful nuclear energy by Iran on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in the Kyrgyz capital city of Bishkek on Friday.
On August 29, head of Bushehr nuclear power plant said the Bushehr atomic power plant has entered the operational phase for “safe and sustainable generation of electricity.”
Hossein Derakhshandeh added that the plant will enter industrial operation phase within the next two months, when Iranian technicians assume responsibility for the facility.

Earlier, Russian Ambassador to Iran Levan Dzhagaryan had said Moscow is ready to increase its nuclear cooperation with Tehran even after the Islamic Republic takes full control of the Russian-built Bushehr nuclear power plant.

Bushehr nuclear power plant became officially operational in September 2011, generating electricity at 40 percent of its capacity.

The 1,000-megawatt plant, which is operating under the full supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), reached its maximum power generation capacity in August 2012.
