A report says the US National Security Agency (NSA) spied on Brazil’s state-run oil firm Petrobras.
Brazilian Globo television network on Sunday said that it had received intelligence documents indicating Washington had been spying on the oil giant.

Globo said in its report that it had obtained information from theGuardian newspaper columnist Glenn Greenwald, who had received the files from NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden.

Details on the nature of the spying have not been released.

This comes a week after Globo reported that the NSA had intercepted the communications of both Brazilian and Mexican presidents.

On September 1, the television channel said that the NSA spied on emails, phone calls and text messages of Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff and Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto when he was running for office.

Following the report by the Guardian, Rousseff warned that she might cancel a visit to the US scheduled for next month if President Barack Obama failed to provide her with a convincing explanation.

In June, Snowden leaked two top secret US government spying programs, under which the NSA and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are eavesdropping on millions of American and European phone records and the Internet data from major Internet companies such as Facebook, Yahoo, Google, Apple, and Microsoft.

Snowden is currently living in Russia on a one-year asylum and is wanted by the United States, where he is facing charges of espionage and theft of government property.
