One Egyptian policeman has been killed and another wounded in the country’s southern city of Aswan, officials say.
The policeman was killed during what seemed to be a revenge attack on a checkpoint in Aswan, south of Cairo on Wednesday, Egypt’s Interior Ministry said.

The attack was conducted by the relatives of a man killed earlier during clashes with police, while trying to "avoid the police by reversing at speed away from the checkpoint," the ministry stated, giving no further details in this regard.

The North African country has been the scene of increasing violence since the military ouster of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi in July.

The government of army-appointed Mansour has launched a bloody crackdown on Morsi supporters and arrested more than 2,000 Brotherhood members, including the party’s supreme leader, Mohamed Badie, who was detained on August 20 on charges of “inciting violence.”

Hundreds of people have lost their lives in the violence between Morsi supporters and the security forces so far.

On September 2, Egypt’s judicial advisory panel, forged by the military-backed government, advised an administrative court to disband the Muslim Brotherhood, known as the country’s largest political group, for operating outside the law.
