Iranian woman playwright and stage director Chista Yasrebi is planning to create a modernized play appropriated from Shakespear’s famous drama Macbeth.
Yasrebi’s new creation titled Macbeth, Tehran, 1392 is slated to chronicle the life of four generations of Iranian youth during four decades.

The play will be presented in form of solo performance during which the whole story is narrated by the only character, Macbeth that represents 15 personages, Yasrebi explained.

“The play flashed through my mind when my students and I were walking in one of Tehran’s streets where I experienced many odd incidents in accompany with this young group,” she said.

Yasrebi plans to take the new play to the 32th Fajr International Theater Festival that will be held in January, 2014 in Tehran.

Born in 1968, Yasrebi began her professional artistic career in 1989 with a play titled Tomorrow May Be the Spring.

She has won several awards at Iran's Fajr Theatre Festivals and been honored in numerous international festivals as a playwright and director.

She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Society of Playwrights of Iran's Theatre House and in-charge of its international committee.

Yasrebi has also written and translated 35 books in the fields related to drama. She has also tried her hand at filmmaking, directing a telefilm titled Marriage on Water.

Yasrebi's better known works such as Glowing Red, Friday Evening, and I love you softly all have humanistic themes.
