Majlis delegation will visit Syria under any condition: Iran MP

29 Aug 2013 - 17:47

A senior Iranian lawmaker says a parliamentary delegation will travel to the Syrian capital, Damascus, under any circumstances and even if a military attack is launched against the crisis-hit Arab state.
Spokesman for the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Seyyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini said on Wednesday that the delegation will go ahead with its plan to visit Syria, and will not call it off.

He went on to say that the Iranian parliamentary delegation includes the chairman and members of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee.

Naqavi Hosseini stated that the mission aims to assess the situation in Syria, and to voice Tehran’s support for the Syrian government and nation following US war threats against the Arab country.

Last week, the foreign-backed Syria opposition blamed the government for the deaths of hundreds of people in a chemical attack in the Damascus suburbs of Ain Tarma, Zamalka and Jobar on August 21.

The Damascus government, however, vehemently denied the accusation, saying the chemical attack was carried out by the militants themselves as a false-flag operation.

Western countries including the US, UK and France have used the excuse to step up their war threats against Syria.

In March, dozens of people were killed in a chemical attack in the northern province of Aleppo. A Russian-led inquiry said that militants were behind the deadly attack.
