TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian army troops killed 18 militants, including a notorious Al-Qaeda commander, during their mop-up operations in Reef (countryside of) Lattakia.


The  army killed Sharif Dandesh, the ringleader of Abdellah Bin Al-Mubarak terrorist group, an offshoot Al-Qaeda and a division of Ahrar Al-Sham movement. The Syrian army also killed 17 other militants during the heavy clashes in Reef Lattakia.

Yesterday, the Syrian army killed another wanted terrorist commander in Damascus.

The army killed Abu Ammar Al-Qabas, commander of the Al-Qaeda-linked Lashkar Al-Bara terrorist group, in the Syrian capital Damascus.

The conflict in Syria started in March 2011, when sporadic pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of western and regional states.

The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle-East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history.

As the foreign-backed insurgency in Syria continues without an end in sight, the US government has boosted its political and military support to Takfiri extremists.

Washington has remained indifferent to warnings by Russia and other world powers about the consequences of arming militant groups.
