6 Aug 2013 - 20:01

A high-ranking Iranian energy official says sweet natural gas extracted from the newly-inaugurated phases 15 and 16 of the giant South Pars gas field will be injected into Iran’s national pipeline within the next few days.
Managing Director of Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC) Mohammad Reza Zahiri said on Tuesday that nearly 12.5 million cubic meters (mcm) of gas per day will be carried from the the phases’ treatment facility to the national pipeline.

He added that the gas is ready for delivery after going through sweetening, dehydration and pressure-boosting stages.

On July 31, the refinery of phases 15 and 16 of South Pars gas field was officially inaugurated in a ceremony attended by senior Iranian officials.

Phases 15 and 16 of South Pars are under development for the production of 50 mcm per day of refined natural gas, 1.05 million tons a year of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), one million ton a year of ethane, 75,000 barrels a day of gas condensate and 400 tons a day of sulfur.

The South Pars gas field, divided into 28 phases, is located in the Persian Gulf on the common border between Iran and Qatar. It is estimated that the field contains 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of condensate.
