Yemeni FM Calls for Enhancing Relations with Iran

4 Aug 2013 - 14:16

TEHRAN (FNA)- Yemen's Foreign Minister Abu Bakr Abdallah al-Qirbi underlined that his country is willing to establish privileged relations with Iran, calling the Islamic Republic an important actor in the region.

“We insist on establishing good and privileged relations and mutual cooperation with Tehran,” Al-Qirbi told FNA in Yemen.

The Yemeni foreign minister pointed to the beginning of the tenure of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, and expressed the hope that Iran-Yemen relations would improve during Rouhani’s presidency.

Iran has always reiterated its resolve to improve ties with the regional nations. A few months ago, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian reiterated Tehran’s support for the establishment of stability, unity and independence in Yemen.

The Iranian official underlined that Iran has so far stood by the Yemeni nation and supported its stability, unity and independence, and hoped that the situation in the country would improve to enable the nation to determine their own fate.

Given Tehran's support for Yemeni nation's demands and will during their uprising against the previous ruling system, Amir Abdollahian said that the Yemeni new statesmen were expected not to continue the wrong way of their predecessors and conform themselves with the new realities, considering the changes made in the country.
