Iranian audibly-challenged karate practitioners have managed to grab three more bronze medals to raise the country’s total medal count at the 2013 Summer Deaflympics in Bulgaria.
On Wednesday, Seyyed Morteza Jodaei and Mohammad Reza Hoshiar overcame their rivals in the minus 84 and plus 84 kilogram categories of men’s kumite competitions in the National Sports Academy in the Bulgarian capital city of Sofia, bagging bronze medals.

Fatemeh Qolizadeh also snatched a bronze medal in women’s minus 68 kilogram kumite contests.

Also on Wednesday, Iranian karate practitioner Seyyed Amir Daniali brought home the gold medal in men's minus 75 kilogram kumite competitions after he defeated his Turkish opponent in the final encounter.

On Tuesday, Mojdeh Mardani exhibited an impressive individual kata performance and grabbed Iran’s first gold medal.

“It’s my first international experience. I am so happy to have won a gold in my debut. I just concentrated on my performance during the competitions and at last received the gold,” she said after her final competition.

Later in the day, Mohammad Khodayar claimed Iran’s second gold medal after he overwhelmed his Argentine opponent in the men's kumite contests in the minus 67 kilogram category.

The 2013 Summer Deaflympics opened in Bulgaria on July 26, and will wrap up on August 4.

The international multi-sport event was first held in Paris in 1924 and now includes almost 5,000 competitors.

A team of 82 Iranian athletes are in action across nine sports. They are competing in athletics, football, judo, karate, swimming, volleyball, Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling, table tennis and taekwondo.

Iran’s Minister of Youth and Sports Mohammad Abbasi left Tehran on Tuesday to attend the competitions.
