TEHRAN (FNA)- Leaders of the so-called Syrian National Coalition held informal talks with the UN Security Council about their political and military objectives.


A delegation led by new coalition chief Ahmad Jarba met ambassadors from the 15-nation council, including envoys from the United States, Britain and France, which are considering arming the militant groups, Al-Alam reported Friday.

Western nations claim to be pressing the militant groups’ leaders to be more open to political talks on settling the conflict.

However Syria’s foreign-sponsored opposition coalition has called on the United States to provide anti-Damascus militant groups with direct military support ‘fast.’Ahmed Assi al-Jarba said on Thursday, "The US commitment of military support to the Supreme Military Council is vital, but it needs to happen fast".

He made the remarks during a meeting with Kerry at the US Mission to the United Nations in New York.

On June 14, US President Barack Obama ordered his administration to provide Takfiri militants in Syria with weapons, which include assault rifles, shoulder-fired rocket-propelled grenades and anti-tank missiles.
