14 Jul 2013 - 17:15

Iran has catalogued over 350,000 manuscripts so far which is far from enough, says a senior cataloguer.
IBNA: Speaking with IBNA, Hussein Mottaghi has said there are over one million manuscripts being kept at Iranian public and private libraries of which only 350,000 volumes have been catalogues.

Author of ‘The Catalogue of Iran’, said Turkey is home to the largest number of manuscripts in the world followed by Iran, according to unofficial statistics.

As he said, in Iran there are many libraries with magnificent collections of manuscripts. Malek National Library, Ayatollah Marashi Najafi Library, the National Library and Archives Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Majlis Library, Astan Quds Razavi Library, Vaziri Library in Yazd, and Tabriz Library are some of the great libraries in Iran with great manuscript collections.

The former manager of the manuscripts section of Majlis Library went on to say that there are many manuscripts in Iran’s public and private libraries which are yet to be catalogued.
