Afghan sources say a dozen people have died in a US-led airstrike in Afghanistan’s eastern province of Paktia,Press TV reports.
Local government officials confirmed the attack, which was carried during the late hours of Saturday.

US forces have increased their air operations across Afghanistan in recent days.

A similar attack killed ten people in Afghanistan’s eastern province of Logar on July 12.

Our correspondent says many people in Kunar Province, eastern Afghanistan, have left their villages and sought refuge in other provinces because of the growing airstrikes.

It is also US killer drone operations that have prompted local villagers to flee their homes.

Civilian casualties have long been a source of friction between the Afghan government and the US-led forces, and have dramatically increased anti-US sentiments in the war-torn country.

The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan in October 2001 as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror.

The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity remains across the country, despite the presence of thousands of US-led troops.
