4 Oct 2020 - 19:03

A new report shows Iran has exported a considerable amount of gasoline in the five months to August 21 as the country becomes a net exporter of the fuel some 15 years after was importing over 27 million liters per day.

The official IRNA news agency said in a Saturday report that gasoline sales had amounted to more than $1 billion in the first five months of the current calendar year.

It said gasoline came first on the list of non-oil commodities exported by Iran over the five-month period as it accounted for 7.37 percent of all revenues generated from the shipments.

The report did not provide any further details about customers of the Iranian gasoline. However, the fuel has been offered for exports in Iran’s Energy Exchange and mainly to customers from neighboring countries who can get round US sanctions on Iran and settle their payments.

Large shipments of the fuel have also been sent to countries as far as Venezuela where a socialist government is grappling with an acute shortage of gasoline mainly because of American sanctions.

The report by IRNA reiterated that Iran was a net importer of gasoline some 15 years ago adding the country had imported 10 billion liters of the fuel in 2005/2006 fiscal year.

However, it said current domestic production of gasoline stands at 115 million liters per day, a bulk of which comes from the flagship Persian Gulf Star Refinery (PGSR) located south of the country.

It said refining capacity for crude and natural gas condensates in the PGSR has reached 2.3 million barrels per day.
