30 Apr 2020 - 14:30

Press TV - A selection of the best works from the "We defeat coronavirus" cartoon contest were on display at an exhibition in Tehran on Wednesday.

The international contest is being organized by Iran’s art bureau and is a joint collaboration with the national Health Ministry.

"In less than 40 days, we witnessed the presence of artists providing 4,200 artworks from 88 countries of the world," explained Secretary of the exhibition Masoud Shojaei Tabatabaei.

The competition achieved virality when announced online and the international response was enormous.

“The majority of the participants were from our country; that is more than 320 artists. After that, we witnessed a large presence of artists from Turkey and China. Many artists participated from Latin America, Brazil, from Europe, Russia, Serbia, and from Arab countries such as Egypt,” said the exhibition's secretary.

The cartoons will be judged on four different subjects.

"The first category and the most important one is elevating the spirit. The second category is about health advocates, the inclusion of doctors, nurses, and medical staff. The third category is health advice, which consists of social distancing, staying at home, and wearing a mask. The fourth category is political topics regarding this subject,” Tabatabaei said.

Iran has been one of the worst-hit nations since the coronavirus outbreak began. There have been 93,657 confirmed cases of COVID-19 nationwide, and 5,957 people have died as a result of the virus in Iran thus far.
