Fighting oppression, extremism, terrorism all religions' duty, including Muslims: President Rouhani

President.ir - President Rouhani had a meeting with the Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Bureau and described the religious bonds between the Iranian and Azerbaijani nations' bonds an important factor for development of relations between the two countries. 

Speaking with Sheikh ul-Islam Allahshükür Hummat Pashazade on Thursday evening in Baku, President Hassan Rouhani said, "The bases of unity among Islamic communities must be further strengthened, not to let enemies divide Muslims through sowing discord".

"Fighting oppression, extremism and terrorism are all religions' duty, including Muslims, and we should present Islam's merciful face to the world more than before," he continued.

Dr Rouhani also said that travel between the two peoples is a valuable step in development of relations and further closeness of the Iranian and Azerbaijani nations.

During the same meeting, the Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Bureau reported on the conditions of the region and Azerbaijan and described closer Tehran-Baku relations beneficial to both nations and the region.

He said, "Currently, religion is the axis of unity among peoples in the region and Azerbaijan".
