Iran, France stresses reinforcing ties

12 May 2019 - 17:40

IRNA - Head of Iran's Strategic Council on Foreign Relations Kamal Kharrazi and Ex-French Foreign Minister Hervé de Charrette emphasized developing ties in all fields.

During the meeting, both sides underlined the historical and cultural backgrounds which can be used as foundation of promoting cooperation in all fields.

During his stay in France, Kharrazi in a meeting with French officials, responded to a question on Tehran's recent decision to suspend some commitments under the nuclear deal also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

He also visited Marielle de Sarnez, Chairman of Committee on Foreign Affairs of the French National Assembly.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Wednesday that Iran will give a 60-day moratorium to the states parties to Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to remedy their breaches and restore Iran's interests enshrined by the international deal.

Iranian Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) in a statement announced that Iran has stopped some of its commitments under the JCPOA as of May 8, 2019.

Over the past year and after the US illegal withdrawal from Iran nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and its breach of the UN Security Council Resolution 2231, the Islamic Republic of Iran has shown most of its self-restraint and has given considerable opportunity on requests made by other parties to JCPOA, the statement reads.

May 8 marks the first anniversary of the US unilateral withdrawal from the Iran Deal formally known as the JCPOA endorsed by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231.
