15 Apr 2019 - 16:53

IRNA – Iraq Electricity Minister said that Iraqi National Electricity Company is to hold talks with an Iranian company called 'Sanir' to finalize Al-Debes new gas power plant in Kirkuk.

Luay al-Khatteeb in a statement announced that during his recent trip to Kirkuk, he ordered Iraqi national electricity company to finalize Al-Debes project with the capacity of 320MW.

According to the statement, 65 percent of the project had been finalized earlier.

Accordingly, a proposal has been presented by the Russian company 'Power Machines' to prepare an opportunity for investment, including two production units with the total capacity of 320MW in Al-Debes.

However, the statement did not refer to more details on cooperation between Iran and Iraq, but the issue was one the main topics discussed during Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's trip to Iraq and Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi's visit to Tehran.

As a result, three projects of synchronizing Iran-Iraq relations by the end of 2019, reducing Iraq electricity network loss up to 30 percent by the end of 2020 and compensating electricity shortage by the end of 2019 were finalized.

Over 65 million KWH electricity worth $6.2b have been exported to Iraq since September 2004.
