Iran Deputy FM, IAEA chief meet in Vienna

IRNA – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), during a meeting in Vienna on Monday, discussed cooperation between Tehran and the Agency within the framework of Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA).

The meeting is held while the UN atomic agency has 13 times confirmed Iran’s compliance with JCPOA so far. After the US exit from the deal in May 2018, the European Union is working on a financial system to help facilitate trade between Iranian and European companies.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas announced today that negotiations are underway between Germany, France, the UK, and the European Union on the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), noting that the mechanism will be registered soon by Iran and Europe.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian also said on Wednesday that the SPV is in the final stages.

Araqchi began his European tour on Monday leaving Tehran for Vienna where he is scheduled to participate in the fourth round of political negotiations between Iran and Austria.

Araqchi will also visit Slovakia and Bulgaria on the second and third legs of his European tour.

Apart from meeting with his counterparts from the three European countries, the Iranian official have also plans to meet with foreign ministers and other officials of the three countries to discuss issues of bilateral importance, as well as the latest regional and international developments.
