Iran wins int'l military archery championship

FNA - Iran's Armed Forces ranked first in the World Military Archery Championships held in Tehran on Friday.

Athletes from Russia, China, North Korea, Ukraine, Sri Lanka and Brazil took part in the event.


The Iranian squad comprising 15 athletes, received three gold, one silver and three bronze medals in compound and recurve fields.


In a relevant development in mid-September 2017, Iranian archers claimed two gold, two silver and one bronze medals at the 2017 World Archery Para Championships in Beijing.


Iran’s compound women open team comprising Somayeh Abbaspour, Razieh Shirmohammadi and Farzaneh Asghari defeated host country China 229-223 and won the championship title at the World Archery Para Championships in the Chinese capital. The Russian team finished third by defeating Italy.


Meanwhile, Iran’s compound men open team comprising Hadi Nouri, Ali Sina Manshazadeh and Ramazan Biabani faced their Italian rivals at the finals, but failed to secure the first place and finished runner-up. The US managed to defeat Russia and claim third place.


Also, Iran’s mixed compound team comprising Sina Manshazadeh and Somayeh Abbaspour conceded defeat to their Russian rivals and grabbed the silver medal at the international tournament. UK defeated Italy and finished third place.
