EU still supports JCPOA despite Denmark's allegations

31 Oct 2018 - 23:04

MNA – After Denmark’s accusations against Iran, the European Commission spokeswoman Maja Kocijancic has said that EU is still working on the promised financial mechanism (SPV) and the issue of alleged ‘assassination’ attempt is being directly dealt with by the member state in question.

After the Danish intelligence chief Finn Borch Andersen accused Iran of a failed ‘assassination attempt’, the Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi ‘strongly’ rejected the claim as a plot to mar good and growing Iran-Europe relations in the current sensitive conditions.

On the Denmark’s accusations levelled against Iran, the European Commission spokeswoman Maja Kocijancic, told CNN that the organization is "following the reports and are in contact with the Danish authorities. At this stage, this issue is being directly dealt with by the member state in question,", namely Denmark.

Kocijancic has also reportedly said that the EU still supports the Iranian nuclear deal despite allegations, adding that the financial mechanism or the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) that the EU has promised to help Iran circumvent the US sanctions is still underway.

"The work on that is going on among member states," she said, adding "we have heard that measures are slowly being taken, but some diplomats have concerns about domestic opposition."
