IRGC commander: Terrorists' 2nd main leader killed in southeastern Iran

29 Sep 2018 - 16:35

FNA - The second-in-command of a terrorist group responsible for the attacks in Southeastern Iran was killed by the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Ground Force, Commander Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour said.

IRGC Ground Force Commander General Pakpour said that Mulla Hashem Nokri, the second main leader of the terrorist group that calls itself Jaish al-Adl, was among the terrorists that were killed on Friday.

The IRGC's Quds Military Base in a statement earlier on Friday had declared that the IRGC forces identified and destroyed the terrorist team that was planning to attack border military posts from outside Iran.

The terrorist network was busted Friday through an ambush by the forces in the vicinity of a border post in Saravan region. Four terrorists were killed and two more were injured during the IRGC's operation.

The terrorist had led a number of terrorist attacks and sabotages against military outposts in the border region, including the assault in Saravan in 2013 that left 14 border guards killed and another attack in Mirjaveh in 2017 that left nine forces killed and another one held captive.

Saravan and Mirjaveh, neighboring Pakistan, are in Southeastern Zahedan, the provincial capital of Sistan and Balouchestan.

On Friday, the IRGC attacked and disbanded a terrorist network in an area along the country’s border with Pakistan, killing four terrorists and wounding two others.

"The attack on the terrorist team came after intelligence operations revealed that the terrorist group had planned to attack Iran's border posts from Pakistan's soil," the IRGC said in a statement.

The anti-terror operations were carried out by IRGC’s Ground Force in the Saravan border area in the Southeastern Iranian province of Sistan and Balouchestan on Friday, it added.

The statement said the terrorist team was disbanded near one of the posts before managing to carry out any act of terror.

"The rest of the terrorists fled deep into Pakistan," it added.

The IRGC's statement noted that the security forces monitor with alertness whatever movement by terrorists.
