Iranian journalists protest performance of filtering committee

8 Jun 2013 - 20:51

More than one hundred journalist and cyber activists have protested the performance of Iran’s filtering committee, Mehr reported.
In a statement issued on Saturday, these activists protested the increasing pressure on cyber media over the past few months.

The statement described the existence of multiple authorities in the field of cyber content as one of the main problems, particularly when some of these authorities use their executive power to impose their views on the country’s official media without any legal proof or taking legal actions.

As it happens, many times over the past year an unrelated authority has contacted official media and ordered them to remove some content from their website or face being blocked.

The statement added that such illegal decisions would undermine the society’s psychological health and the principle of committed news reporting.
